I am a newer teacher going into my first year of teaching First Grade. I LOVE Early Childhood and had the rare opportunity to loop with my kindergarteners from last year. I also became an Inclusion teacher. As a result my classroom library needs to expand in both breadth and depth and it needs to add more nonfiction materials. Additionally, I have students in my class reading already at 4th grade levels and therefore need to provide extended materials for these voracious readers as well.

These children are full of energy, excited to learn, and are a diverse group of English Language Learners/English as Second Language Learners, and IEP students....

These children are full of energy, excited to learn, and are a diverse group of English Language Learners/English as Second Language Learners, and IEP students. Our full day Kindergarten class is at a Title 1 school. Our school is located in a poorer urban area of the state, with families underemployed with high unemployment and therefore high in poverty. The student population is 85% Hispanic, 7% African American, 3% Caucasian, and 2% Asian.

All students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students face challenges in their daily lives that many of us could not imagine, yet they come to school with positive attitudes and are eager to learn.
